It looks like Amazon is a step closer to deciding where the next headquarters will be. Earlier today a shorter, 20-city list was announced for its famed “HQ2.” As you may know, Amazon HQ is located in Seattle, WA. In recent months it has become a polarizing topic of conversation, with some deeming Amazon as an integral part of a growing problem in Seattle with rent prices and cost of living being too high. Many blame the growth of the corporation as the main reason why. In the mean time, many others praise Amazon for the amount of jobs and commerce they have brought to the region.
Originally, Amazon received bids from 238 cities and regions throughout North America. They evaluated each of the bids based on the criteria it previously outlined, such as proximity to a major airport, ability to attract tech talent and a suburban or urban area with more than 1 million people. A decision will be made on HQ2 by the end of 2018, and the new facility will cost at least $5 billion to construct and operate while creating as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs.
Here’s the 20 cities still in the running for Amazon HQ2:
Montgomery County, Maryland
New York City
Northern Virginia, VA
